Playing Around

Today I was playing around with some of my new toys from Stampin’ Up! and made this card.

St Pats Hearts

I had been making a card using the I {Heart} Hearts stamp set that wasn’t really working out how I planned when I decided I would make a St Patrick’s Day card…not that we really celebrate St Patrick’s Day! LOL!!

I stamped the polka dot heart 3 times in Old Olive and added some Old Olive ribbon for the stem. I also added a Very Vanilla button for the centre of the shamrock. I layered the card onto some Pumpkin Pie card and then ran my Old Olive card base through my Big Shot using the Polka Dots impressions plate. I finished the card off with a greeting from the Occasions for All set.

So…here it is. I think it is kind of cute!

New Toys

The best thing about being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator is that we get to buy products from the new catalogues before every one else! I am very excited about the mini catalogue that is coming out in April…because it has sooo many cool things in it. Just look what arrived at my house this morning!!!!!

Yes!! It is my beautiful Big Shot from Stampin’ Up! I have spent my day playing and making things using all the great goodies that arrived with it. So do you want to see what I made???? Hmmmm???…

Okay then! :)

This is a little purse that I have made using the TOP NOTE DIE and POLKA DOTS EMBOSSING PLATE. It is sooooo easy to make and looks soooo cute!!

I made the flowers using my FIVE PETAL PUNCH on paper that I had scrunched up and made to look like suede. And added a green RHINESTONE BRAD in the centre. I finished it off with some PRETTY IN PINK TAFFETA RIBBON and a tiny tag using the new TINY TAG SET and TINY TAG PUNCH.

My nest project was to make a pillow box using my new PILLOW BOX, LITTLE LEAF AND CIRCLE #2 DIES. I cut the circles out of some WALK IN THE PARK DSP (retired) and then scrunched them up and distressed the edges. I added a KIWI CORDUROY BUTTON and finished it off with a KIWI KISS leaf.

My last project is this cute little Easter Basket. Again I used some retired DSP –PARISIAN BREEZE to make the box using the PARTY FAVOUR DIE. I used some BAJA BREEZE STRIPE RIBBON for the handle and then stamped the bunnies and label using the EGGCOURTIMENT set in CHOCOLATE CHIP. This was soooo fast to make…only a couple of minutes!! It is going to be a huge time-saver when my kids have their next birthday parties!!

So that is it for now!! I have a few more projects that just need a bit more embellishing and I will be back to show you my efforts.

Easel Card

I saw some Easel cards on SCS and decided that I would just have to have a go myself. I had on my very messy desk some Pink Flamingo DSP so this became the focus for my card.

I love the bright colours used in Pink Flamingo so I picked my favourites- Tempting Turquoise for the card base, Cameo Coral for the mats, Summer Sun to make the easel stop part. I finished the card off with some Real Red Ribbon and Chit Chat rubons.

It was quick and easy to make…I hope you give it a go!

Dare to Resist

At my class in February, we learned the many ways we can use the resist technique for making great cards. Here are the cards we made and the technique we used. All of these techniques have tutorials over at Splitcoaststampers.

Emboss Resist

This first card has been made using the EMBOSS RESIST technique. I did case this card from Tara at SCS…just changing it slightly. We used Circle Circus stamp set and stamped it in Versamark. We then embossed it using clear EP. We rubbed Pink Passion ink over the top and finished it off with Only Orange embellishments. Cool hey??

Ghosting Red Ghosting Blue

These cards use the GHOSTING technique…this is where you stamp an image in Versamark (we used the flowers and butterflies from Priceless) on glossy cardstock and then brayer or sponge ink over the top. The two samples show the two different ways to add the ink. The Riding Hood Red one, I used a brayer and the Pacific Point one, I used a dauber. I personally like the dauber effect more as you could see the image clearer but my ladies all liked the brayer effect better.  I will leave it up to you to decide.

This technique, called EMERGING COLOUR, would have to be my new favourite. And this was the first time I had ever tried it before. It is vey cool! You just stamp some solid images in a light ink onto WW cardstock. We then Versamarked and embossed with clear EP a large, solid image- the large flower from Petal Pizzaz. Then you get a dark colour and ink over the top. The embossed flower resisted the dark ink. The photo doesn’t do the card justice…it is very pretty in real life. The colours we used were: Regal Rose and So Saffron for the small background stamps, Elegant Eggplant for the over all ink colour; So Saffron and Perfect Plum for the cardstock. Definitely going to be making more of these.

IMG_0059For this card, we used the CRAYON RESIST technique. We stamped the tree image from Lovely as a Tree set in black Stazon on glossy cardstock. We then used a white waxed crayon to add white highlights to the branches. Then using a sponge dauber, we added some Always Artichoke ink to the tree and Brocade Blue ink to the sky. We use Brocade Blue for our card base and Always Artichoke for  the mat and finished it off with some Hemp Twine.

PAP Wax Resist 1 Wax Resisit Navy

For our last two cards, we used the WAX PAPER RESIST technique. This technique is super easy. Get a piece of wax paper, scrunch it up into a tight ball, put it between 2 pieces of glossy cardstock, iron it and then add colour. For the first card, we used Mellow Moss to create our background. We then stamped a flower using the Pick a Petal set using Pretty in Pink and Mellow Moss. For the second card, we used our resist card as the feature. We used Night of Navy in to bring out the “texture” created by the wax paper. We added some Night of Navy ribbon and it was done.

So there you have it! Five different techniques and 6 different cards. I hope you give them a try- they are lots of fun!!

Bag in a Box

I have made these cute boxes before but I wanted to make a smaller version to put some little chocolates in for James’ kindy teachers. They are two fantastic ladies who go beyond the normal to help me with drop off and pick up for James. So it is my mission to make little thank you’s every couple of weeks or so.

BIB Butterfly

I have used Raspberry Tart DSP and co-ordinating cardstock in Kiwi Kiss, Rose Red and Pretty in Pink.  I decorated the bag with the Butterfly Print stamp set and butterfly punch and Pretty in Pink Taffeta ribbon.

Miss Leanne and Miss Naomi loved the boxes and I hope you do too!
