Scrapbook Expo

I had a great time at the Australasian Scrapbook and Papercraft Expo on the June long weekend. I was a part of 6 demonstrators who  put their creative talents on show. We met many great people and it was such a lot of fun being able to share my love of paper crafting with everyone.

A fun technique

I love using a technique to make a card have that wow factor. And last weekend at our team meeting, my upline Kim asked me to show everyone a technique that wowed my customers. So I showed them the Embossing folder and wax paper resist technique. You can find a tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers on how to do it.

My three cards above show how you can use the finished effect to give three different cards. For the red card, I used the resist as the featured background. For the cupcake card, I used the resist as the feature on the cupcakes. And on the flower card, I embossed the same folder on the resist page. Three different effects with one great technique. I hope you give it a go one day soon!!

Thank You Box

My DD started to learn the violin this year and was fortunate to be able to spend 3 days on a music camp….the only problem was- they were the same 3 days that I work. So luckily for me, I had a friend who offered to take her and bring her home in the afternoon. To say thank you, I made these little boxes and filled them with choccies!!

I made the button on the front of the chocolate box by layering card circles and then covering it in crystal effects.

Convention Swaps

Each year, Stampin’ Up! holds a convention for all its demonstrators and this year it was in Melbourne. Much of the fun of going to convention is to be able to swap cards with other demonstrators…these are the cards I made for swaps this year.

I really loved the butterfly card so I made it in 2 different colour combinations- purples and orange/rust. The other card is one of my first attempts at the vintage look.

Hayley’s Birthday

My DD Hayley turned 8 in March…and we don’t tend to do the birthday party thing every year but seeing as we didn’t do it last year, it was inevitable that it would be a go this year. She decided that she wanted to go to the movies with some of her friends from school (yay I said).

These are the invitations that I made. I love the new cupcake punch and stamp set out of the Autumn mini….it made making the invitations so quick and easy. The colours I used were Blushing Bride, Pear Pizzazz, Peach Parfait and Chocolate Chip.

I made up “Bag in a Box” bags for the party bags…and the girls took them into the movies with them. I had them filled with movie food- popcorn, lollies and chips.

Now many of you may not know this about me…but I have a horrible affliction…..yes I am icing impaired. I never have any success when it comes to decorating cakes for my children’s birthdays….oh the stories I could tell…but I digress. Earlier on in the year, I bought some edible ink felt pens….so when it came to decorating Hayley’s cake, I simply bought some white marzipan icing, rolled it out and put it over the cake. Then I went and got out my Vintage Vogue stamp set…gave it a good clean and used the markers to ink up the stamps. And hey presto….a beautifully iced cake. Now I did cheat a little and buy the little roses in the middle of some of the big flowers but the rest is all hand stamped and hand made by me!!

Finally, this is the card I made for Hayley. This is a case of a card that I have had in my favourites folder for a long time and I am sorry that I don’t know whose original idea this is. I changed it a bit and added some gold shimmer paint to the flower.

All in all it was a good birthday and I had lots of fun making them for her!!

Hello

Well I am sure that you have thought that I had been kidnapped by aliens and really that would be a much better story than…I have been busy….but I have just been really busy. The start of the school year is always a bit hectic but this year just seemed to be much worse. My DS started prep and my DH started a new job so there was lots of preparations needed for both events. Then there has been classes to get ready for, and to teach both at school and at home. But hopefully I will get back into  a regular routine of posting again.

This is the card that I made for my niece for her 16th birthday back in February. She is bright and bubbly so I wanted to make something that was bright too. I used the Sunny Garden DSP and punched out flowers and scallops and then crumpled then all up and put a flower brad through the centre. It is really pretty in real life and my niece loved it!!

I will be back soon with some more projects…I promise!!
